SOCCER VOCABULARY (Part 2)

ENGLISH AUDIO

Nesta segunda parte do post sobre os termos do futebol em Língua Inglesa, veremos expressões como man-to-man marking, injury time e captain’s armband, entre outros, para nos aprofundarmos no tema, principalmente por causa do início da Copa do Mundo FIFA 2026 na América do Norte (Canadá, EUA e México), além de ampliar o vocabulário em Inglês. WINNER (gol da vitória)

• He scored the winner just seconds before the referee blew the final whistle. (Ele marcou o gol da vitória poucos segundos antes do apito final.)
• That dramatic winner will remain in the club’s history for many years. (Aquele gol dramático da vitória ficará na história do clube por muitos anos.)

ASSIST (assistência)

• The attacking midfielder provided a beautiful assist between two opposing defenders. (O meia ofensivo deu uma linda assistência entre dois defensores adversários.)
• That assist perfectly demonstrated his exceptional vision and passing ability. (Aquela assistência demonstrou perfeitamente a visão de jogo e capacidade de passe dele.)

THROUGH BALL (passe em profundidade)

• The midfielder delivered a perfect through ball for the striker running behind the defense. (O meio-campista deu um passe em profundidade perfeito para o atacante correndo atrás da defesa.)
• The opposing defenders failed to stop the quick through ball into the penalty area. (Os defensores adversários não conseguiram parar o rápido passe em profundidade para a área.)

LONG BALL (lançamento longo)

• The center-back sent a long ball toward the left wing during the counterattack. (O zagueiro lançou uma bola longa para a ponta esquerda durante o contra-ataque.)
• Their strategy often relied on long balls directed toward the fast forwards. (A estratégia deles frequentemente dependia de bolas longas direcionadas aos atacantes rápidos.)

ONE-TWO PASS (tabela)

• The two forwards completed a beautiful one-two pass inside the opponent’s penalty area. (Os dois atacantes fizeram uma linda tabela dentro da área adversária.)
• That quick one-two pass completely disrupted the opposing defensive line. (Aquela tabela rápida desorganizou completamente a linha defensiva adversária.)

MARKING (marcação)

• The defender’s tight marking prevented the striker from creating dangerous opportunities. (A marcação forte do defensor impediu o atacante de criar oportunidades perigosas.)
• The coach always emphasizes aggressive marking during important championship matches. (O treinador sempre enfatiza uma marcação agressiva durante partidas importantes do campeonato.)

MAN-TO-MAN MARKING (marcação individual)

• The team used man-to-man marking to neutralize the opponent’s most creative midfielder. (O time usou marcação individual para neutralizar o meio-campista mais criativo do adversário.)
• Man-to-man marking requires great concentration and physical effort during the entire match. (A marcação individual exige muita concentração e esforço físico durante toda a partida.)

ZONAL MARKING (marcação por zona)

• The defenders preferred zonal marking during corners and dangerous free kicks near the box. (Os defensores preferiram marcação por zona durante escanteios e faltas perigosas perto da área.)
• Zonal marking worked extremely well against the opponent’s tall and physical attackers. (A marcação por zona funcionou extremamente bem contra os atacantes altos e fortes do adversário.)

SUBSTITUTION (substituição)

• The coach made an attacking substitution to increase pressure during the final minutes. (O treinador fez uma substituição ofensiva para aumentar a pressão nos minutos finais.)
• That substitution brought much more speed and creativity to the team’s attack. (Aquela substituição trouxe muito mais velocidade e criatividade ao ataque do time.)

INJURY TIME (acréscimos)

• The winning goal was scored during injury time after a chaotic sequence inside the box. (O gol da vitória foi marcado nos acréscimos após uma sequência caótica dentro da área.)
• The referee added six minutes of injury time because of multiple interruptions in play. (O árbitro acrescentou seis minutos de acréscimos por causa de várias interrupções no jogo.)

FORMATION (formação tática)

• The team started the match with an aggressive 4-3-3 formation focused on attacking football. (O time começou a partida com uma formação agressiva em 4-3-3 focada em futebol ofensivo.)
• The coach changed the formation after conceding an early goal in the first half. (O treinador mudou a formação após sofrer um gol cedo no primeiro tempo.)

PRESSING (pressão na saída de bola)

• The team’s intense pressing forced the opponents to make several defensive mistakes. (A pressão intensa do time forçou os adversários a cometer vários erros defensivos.)
• The players maintained high pressing throughout the entire first half of the game. (Os jogadores mantiveram pressão alta durante todo o primeiro tempo da partida.)

HIGH LINE (linha alta)

• The defenders played with a high line to recover possession much closer to the opponent’s goal. (Os defensores jogaram com linha alta para recuperar a posse muito mais perto do gol adversário.)
• A high line can become very dangerous against teams with extremely fast attackers. (Uma linha alta pode se tornar muito perigosa contra times com atacantes extremamente rápidos.)

SET PIECE (bola parada)

• The team scored twice from set pieces during the important semifinal match yesterday. (O time marcou duas vezes em bolas paradas durante a importante semifinal de ontem.)
• The coach spends hours practicing set pieces during every training session with the squad. (O treinador passa horas treinando bolas paradas em cada sessão de treino com o elenco.)

WALL (barreira)

• The defensive wall successfully prevented the ball from entering directly into the goal. (A barreira defensiva impediu com sucesso que a bola entrasse diretamente no gol.)
• The midfielder curled the ball beautifully around the wall and into the top corner. (O meio-campista colocou a bola com perfeição ao redor da barreira e no ângulo.)

SAVE (defesa)

• The goalkeeper made an unbelievable save in front of a completely silent stadium. (O goleiro fez uma defesa inacreditável diante de um estádio completamente silencioso.)
• That spectacular save kept the team alive during the final moments of the match. (Aquela defesa espetacular manteve o time vivo nos momentos finais da partida.)

REBOUND (rebote)

• The striker reacted quickly to the rebound and scored easily into the empty net. (O atacante reagiu rapidamente ao rebote e marcou facilmente no gol vazio.)
• The goalkeeper pushed the ball away, but the rebound still created serious danger. (O goleiro espalmou a bola, mas o rebote ainda criou muito perigo.)

CHIP SHOT (cavadinha)

• The forward surprised everyone with a delicate chip shot over the advancing goalkeeper. (O atacante surpreendeu todos com uma cavadinha delicada sobre o goleiro adiantado.)
• His chip shot landed perfectly under the crossbar and into the back of the net. (A cavadinha dele caiu perfeitamente abaixo do travessão e entrou no fundo da rede.)

CROSSBAR (travessão)

• The powerful shot struck the crossbar before bouncing back into the penalty area. (O chute forte bateu no travessão antes de voltar para a área.)
• The crowd gasped loudly when the ball smashed against the crossbar in the final minute. (A torcida reagiu com espanto quando a bola explodiu no travessão no minuto final.)

POST (trave)

• The striker’s powerful shot hit the post after beating the goalkeeper completely. (O chute forte do atacante bateu na trave após vencer completamente o goleiro.)
• The goalkeeper was extremely lucky to see the ball bounce off the post. (O goleiro teve muita sorte ao ver a bola bater na trave.)

BOX (grande área)

• The striker entered the box at high speed before attempting a dangerous shot on goal. (O atacante entrou na grande área em alta velocidade antes de tentar um chute perigoso.)
• The defenders crowded the box during the final moments to protect their narrow lead. (Os defensores fecharam a grande área nos minutos finais para proteger a vantagem apertada.)

SIX-YARD BOX (pequena área)

• The goalkeeper controlled the six-yard box confidently during every corner kick in the match. (O goleiro controlou a pequena área com confiança durante todos os escanteios da partida.)
• The striker scored from inside the six-yard box after a precise low cross. (O atacante marcou dentro da pequena área após um cruzamento rasteiro preciso.)

SWEEPER KEEPER (goleiro-linha)

• The sweeper keeper moved far outside the penalty area to intercept the dangerous pass. (O goleiro-linha saiu muito além da área para interceptar o passe perigoso.)
• Many modern coaches prefer using a sweeper keeper in possession-based tactical systems. (Muitos treinadores modernos preferem usar um goleiro-linha em sistemas táticos baseados em posse de bola.)

CAPTAIN’S ARMBAND (braçadeira de capitão)

• He proudly wore the captain’s armband during his one hundredth match for the club. (Ele usou orgulhosamente a braçadeira de capitão em sua centésima partida pelo clube.)
• The young midfielder received the captain’s armband after the veteran player was substituted. (O jovem meio-campista recebeu a braçadeira de capitão após a substituição do jogador veterano.)

DERBY (clássico regional)

• The derby between the two historic rivals attracted thousands of passionate supporters. (O clássico entre os dois rivais históricos atraiu milhares de torcedores apaixonados.)
• Derby matches are usually intense, emotional, and physically demanding for both teams. (Os clássicos geralmente são intensos, emocionantes e fisicamente exigentes para ambas as equipes.)
