Let’s do it! 😉
Hi there, tudo certinho por aí? Let’s do this! 😃
Mrs. Thompson is driving her car. (A Sra. Thompson está dirigindo seu carro.) She looks in the rearview mirror. (Ela olha no espelho retrovisor.) A blue car is behind her. A man is driving the blue car. (Um carro azul está atrás dela. Um homem está dirigindo o carro azul.) The man in the blue car waves at Mrs. Thompson. (O homem no carro azul acena para a Sra. Thompson.) He is saying something, but Mrs. Thompson can’t hear him. (Ele está dizendo algo, mas a Sra. Thompson não consegue ouvi-lo.) Mrs. Thompson turns left. (A Sra. Thompson vira à esquerda.) The man in the blue car turns left, too. (O homem no carro azul vira à esquerda também.) Mrs. Thompson turns right. (A Sra. Thompson vira à direita.) The man in the blue car turns right, too. (O homem no carro azul vira à direita também.) Mrs. Thompson drives fast. (A Sra. Thompson dirige rápido.) The man in the blue car drives fast, too. (O homem no carro azul dirige rápido também.) Mrs. Thompson is afraid of the man in the blue car. (A Sra. Why is he waving at her? What is he saying? Why is he following her? (Por que ele está acenando para ela? O que ele está dizendo? Por que ele está seguindo-a?) She looks in the rearview mirror again. (Ela olha no espelho retrovisor novamente.) Is the man in the blue car still behind her? (O homem no carro azul ainda está atrás dela?) Yes, he is, and now he is turning his headlights on and off! Mrs. Thompson decides to drive to the police station. (A Sra. The man in the blue car follows her. (O homem no carro azul a segue.) Mrs. Thompson arrives at the police station and stops her car. (A Sra. A police officer comes to her car and says, “There’s a cat on the top of your car!” Mrs. Thompson’s cat is on the top of her car. (O gato da Sra. Thompson está em cima do carro dela.) The cat is very afraid. (O gato está com muito medo.) Mrs. Thompson looks for the man in the blue car, but he is gone. (A Sra. Now Mrs. Thompson understands: the man in the blue car was trying to tell her, “There’s a cat on the top of your car!” (Agora a Sra.

HISTÓRIA DA CANÇÃO Lançada em 1983, “Total Eclipse of the Heart” foi o primeiro single do álbum Faster Than the Speed of Night, o quinto trabalho de estúdio da cantora galesa Bonnie Tyler. Curiosamente, impediu que outra composição de Jim Steinman, “Making Love Out of Nothing at All”, gravada pelo grupo Air Supply, chegasse ao primeiro lugar.

AUDIO 1 (TASK 2) DIALOGUE 1 Speaker 1: Morning, how can I help? Speaker 2: Hi there! I want something small, but meaningful. Speaker 1: Have you considered these hand-painted tiles? They come in different designs and show iconic city landmarks. Speaker 2: Oh, they’re beautiful. My mom would love one of these. Speaker 1: It’s perfect as a gift for someone who appreciates local art. Speaker 2: I guess you’re right! Can I have two of them, please? DIALOGUE 2 Speaker 3: Hey, can you help me? I’m looking for something for my parents. Speaker 4: Sure! hmm, let me see... this one might be perfect for them — it’s a locally produced fig jam. It comes in a handmade jar and with a little booklet about the farm where it’s made. Speaker 3: That sounds great, but my dad doesn’t really like sweet things. Do you have anything savory? Speaker 4: Another good option would be this set of local spices — they're great for cooking Mediterranean dishes at home. Speaker 3: I’ll tell you what, I’ll get the fig jam for my mom and the spices for dad, thank you. DIALOGUE 3 Speaker 1: I was thinking of getting something for my sister. One of these scarves will do… but I’m not sure which one. Speaker 2: If you’re looking for something unique, we have these scarves with natural colors. It’s made of organic cotton, so it’s very light and soft. Speaker 1: That’s exactly what I was looking for! How much is it? Speaker 2: It’s $65 — they’re all handmade by a local cooperative. Speaker 1: Oh, that’s a bit more than I wanted to spend, to be honest. I’ll take a look around to see if I find anything a bit cheaper, thanks. DIALOGUE 4 Speaker 3: Do you have souvenirs that aren’t too big? I don't have much space left in my bag! Speaker 4: Most tourists go for our mini photo books — they’re great for sharing memories without taking up much space. Speaker 3: That sounds like a good idea. What’s included in the photo book? Speaker 4: It comes with 30 high-quality images of the city’s main landmarks, a short description for each, and a fold-out map at the end. It also has space for you to write your own notes. Speaker 3: Oh, nice! And is it in English? Speaker 4: Yes, it comes in six languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese. Speaker 3: I’ll take it! DIALOGUE 5 Speaker 1: Good afternoon! Welcome to our gallery. Speaker 2: Oh, thank you. It’s a lovely place. I love these paintings. I wish I could get one, but it’s too big to carry.
Speaker 1: They are very beautiful indeed! If you prefer something more portable, there’s also a postcard set. They come in different sizes, and the prints are very detailed. Speaker 2: Oh, perfect. I’ll take the set! Speaker 1: Great choice. It comes with six different views of the city — two landscapes, two market scenes, and two night views. They’re ideal for framing or sending to friends. Speaker 2: That sounds great. Is the artist local? Speaker 1: Yes! She’s based just outside the city. DIALOGUE 6 Speaker 3:I’d like to bring something nice for my partner. Speaker 4: Sure, it depends on your budget — there’s the handcrafted leather wallet, or another good option would be this smaller cardholder. It’s ideal for everyday use and very durable. Speaker 3: I’ll take a closer look at both, thanks. Hmm… the wallet looks really elegant, but it might be too much for my partner, he doesn’t carry many things. Speaker 4: In that case, have you considered this slim design? It’s perfect as a practical and stylish gift. Speaker 3: That sounds great. Do you have it in other colors? Speaker 4: It comes in black, brown, and a deep navy blue — the navy blue’s quite popular. Speaker 3: I like the color, but I’m not sure… I think I’ll take some time to think about it and maybe come back later. AUDIO 2 (TASK 3) Tourist:Hi! I’d love to get something special for my sister. She loves anything handmade. Store assistant: Of course! If you’re looking for something special, we have these hand-painted ceramic bowls. It’s made of traditional clay from the north of Portugal, and each one is slightly different. Tourist: Oh, they’re beautiful! Are there other options too? Store assistant: Yes, there’s also these silk scarves designed by local artists. Each pattern is inspired by different parts of the city. They come in different shades — we’ve got pastels, bold prints, and even some limited-edition ones. Tourist: I see… and what do people usually buy from here? Store assistant: Most tourists go for the illustrated city journals. It’s ideal for travelers as a travel diary. Tourist: I like the idea of the bowl. Is it gift-ready? Store assistant: Absolutely. It’s perfect as a decorative piece, and it comes with a small card explaining the history of the design. Tourist: That’s nice. How much is it? Store assistant: Well, it depends on your budget – there’s the smaller version for €12, or the full-size bowl for €25. Tourist: Hmmm, I might go with the bigger one. Thanks.

Então me corrijo: “ou melhor, a minha esposa fez”. Na Língua Inglesa, usamos a expressão or rather nesses casos.

Já ouviu alguém dizer em Inglês: "I’m at my best today"? Vejamos algumas frases com at one’s best.

Você pode usar a expressão keen on. Bons estudos. 😉

Nesta postagem vamos conhecer dois phrasal verbs parecidos e frequentemente confundidos: be up to e be up for. Veremos, ao decorrer deste artigo, 5 sentidos de be up to e 4 de be up for. O nosso estudo será com frases de exemplo reais que usam be up to e be up for. 😉
BE UP TO O primeiro sentido de be up to é “depender de”.

A construção up to tomada isoladamente, ou seja, desconsiderando o verbo to be, significa “à altura” ou “até”. Veja:

They allowed us up to two hours to finish the test.
This seed should yield up to 300 bushels per acre.

BE UP FOR O primeiro sentido de be up for não é muito exato; pode ter algumas conotações levemente diferentes. Confira:

* No exemplo apresentado, temos o verbo get no lugar do verbo be, mas seria possível também a construção “I’m up for racketeering” nessa situação.
