In this lesson, students develop their conversational skills by talking about how to spend a day off. To engage with the topic, the students watch a short video and identify different activities. They then match a set of collocations and practice the phrases in a variety of student-centered tasks. The students then develop their listening skills by hearing a conversation between two friends discussing how to spend their day off. They complete comprehension tasks before focusing on the functional language used in the conversation for making suggestions and giving responses. They then practice the language in a communicative, productive task. The lesson finishes with a speaking game to review the lesson content. (by Victoria Aitken)

Lee: Should we do something on Saturday? It’s going to be hot and sunny. I don’t want to stay indoors.
Rachel: Sure… why don’t we go for a walk, or we could play tennis? I need to do some exercise.
Lee: No, I don’t think so. Let’s do something more exciting. Why don’t we go bowling or we could go to the amusement park.
Rachel: Hmm… that sounds expensive.
Lee: You’re right! How about going for a bike ride and then we could have a picnic in the park.
Rachel: That’s a great idea.
Lee: OK, that’s a plan.
