Você já teve a sensação de que alguém estava seguindo você? Imagine olhar pelo retrovisor e perceber que o mesmo carro continua atrás de você, faça o caminho que fizer. A pessoa acena, tenta dizer alguma coisa, pisca os faróis… e você não faz ideia do que está acontecendo. Foi exatamente isso que aconteceu com Mrs. Thompson.
O que parecia o começo de um filme de suspense acaba se transformando em uma história curiosa e até divertida. E o melhor de tudo: esse texto foi escrito com vocabulário simples e frases curtas, ideal para quem está aprendendo Inglês de forma natural.

THE MAN IN THE BLUE CAR

Mrs. Thompson is driving her car. (A Sra. Thompson está dirigindo seu carro.)
She looks in the rearview mirror. (Ela olha no espelho retrovisor.)
A blue car is behind her. A man is driving the blue car. (Um carro azul está atrás dela. Um homem está dirigindo o carro azul.)
The man in the blue car waves at Mrs. Thompson. (O homem no carro azul acena para a Sra. Thompson.)
He is saying something, but Mrs. Thompson can’t hear him. (Ele está dizendo algo, mas a Sra. Thompson não consegue ouvi-lo.)
Mrs. Thompson turns left. (A Sra. Thompson vira à esquerda.)
The man in the blue car turns left, too. (O homem no carro azul vira à esquerda também.)
Mrs. Thompson turns right. (A Sra. Thompson vira à direita.)
The man in the blue car turns right, too. (O homem no carro azul vira à direita também.)
Mrs. Thompson drives fast. (A Sra. Thompson dirige rápido.)
The man in the blue car drives fast, too. (O homem no carro azul dirige rápido também.)
Mrs. Thompson is afraid of the man in the blue car. (A Sra. Thompson está com medo do homem no carro azul.)
Why is he waving at her? What is he saying? Why is he following her? (Por que ele está acenando para ela? O que ele está dizendo? Por que ele está seguindo-a?)
She looks in the rearview mirror again. (Ela olha no espelho retrovisor novamente.)
Is the man in the blue car still behind her? (O homem no carro azul ainda está atrás dela?)
Yes, he is, and now he is turning his headlights on and off! (Sim, ele está, e agora ele está acendendo e apagando os faróis!)
Mrs. Thompson decides to drive to the police station. (A Sra. Thompson decide dirigir até a delegacia de polícia.)
The man in the blue car follows her. (O homem no carro azul a segue.)
Mrs. Thompson arrives at the police station and stops her car. (A Sra. Thompson chega à delegacia de polícia e para o seu carro.)
A police officer comes to her car and says, “There’s a cat on the top of your car!” (Um policial vai até o carro dela e diz: “Tem um gato em cima do seu carro!”)
Mrs. Thompson’s cat is on the top of her car. (O gato da Sra. Thompson está em cima do carro dela.)
The cat is very afraid. (O gato está com muito medo.)
Mrs. Thompson looks for the man in the blue car, but he is gone. (A Sra. Thompson procura pelo homem no carro azul, mas ele sumiu.)
Now Mrs. Thompson understands: the man in the blue car was trying to tell her, “There’s a cat on the top of your car!” (Agora a Sra. Thompson entende: O homem no carro azul estava tentando dizer a ela, “Tem um gato em cima do seu carro!”)
