In this lesson, students develop their conversational skills by talking about having a bad day. To set the theme and respond to the topic, the students start by discussing a set of photos and questions. They then identify and practice different situations which can contribute towards a bad day. The students then develop their receptive skills by listening to someone describing a bad day and completing different tasks. There is a focus on the use of sequence words to order the events of a story and the students then complete a picture story speaking task to consolidate the language. The students expand their vocabulary further by learning a set of related adjectives and activities that make people feel better. The students finish the lesson with a communicative group task which involves the students planning and telling their classmates about a bad day they have had. There is a review game of bad day charades to review all the language from the lesson (by Victoria Aitken).

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
Sarah: I had the worst day! First, I missed the bus and was late for work, and my boss was not happy. Then, I realized I forgot my lunch, so I had to go and buy some from the café around the corner, but it was raining, and I got soaking wet. Later, on my way home, I dropped my phone and broke the screen. Finally, when I got home, all I wanted was a relaxing shower but there was no hot water, so I had to take a cold shower. I got out and decided to go straight to bed, hoping the next day would be better.
