In this lesson, students develop their language and skills in the context of a superhero character. To engage with the topic, they talk about superheroes in general. Then, they focus on Spider-Man and identify related vocabulary before completing a quiz to check their existing knowledge on the character. They listen to an audio about Spider-Man to check their answers before completing the summary with the missing vocabulary words. The students then identify and practice actions and abilities. They finish the lesson with a speaking task, which allows them to personalize the topic. There is a word puzzle to review the language from the lesson. (by Vicky Aitken)

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Speaker: In the story, Peter Parker is a high school student living in New York City. He is quiet and smart, especially in science. On a school trip, a radioactive spider bites him and he develops spider-like superpowers. He learns he can climb walls, shoot webs, and he can feel danger before it comes. He also has super strength and speed, and he can move very quickly and easily. At first, he uses his powers for fun, but after a criminal kills his Uncle Ben, he understands he has to use his powers to help people and fight crime. He designs, makes, and wears a special red and blue suit with web patterns. It includes a mask which hides his face and identity. The suit has web shooters, which help him move from building to building. He meets many villains who want to kill him. The Green Goblin is one of the most dangerous. His real name is Norman Osborn, and he is a rich, clever businessman. He wears a green suit and a scary mask.
