In this lesson, students develop their conversational skills by describing a vacation using the verb to be in the past. Using a picture and prompts, the students identify and personalize the topic. They then learn about different types of vacations and identify a set of adjectives before practicing the language in a variety of student-centered activities. The students then develop their listening skills by hearing three people talking about a recent vacation. From the descriptions, they focus on the use, form, and pronunciation of was and were and practice using the structure in a variety of tasks. They then consolidate and personalize the language in a productive interview task. There is an additional speaking task which focuses on yes/no questions and a final describing game to review the lesson. (by Victoria Aitken)
