AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
Roisin: Will! Are you busy?
Will: Hi, Roisin. No, just walking home. What’s up?
Roisin: I want to apply for a job with that media company we were talking about over the weekend. They have a position for a trainee.
Will: That’s great news. Go for it!
Roisin: But the problem is, they want me to send in a video résumé. I've never done one before.
Will: Oh, you’ll be great at it. So, do you want to borrow my camera?
Roisin: Please?
Will: Of course. I can film you if you want, as long as you don’t feel awkward. We can do it in my studio. It’s nice and light, and I can put up a background that will look professional.
Roisin: That sounds great. No, I’ll be fine with you watching. It’s just that I don’t really know what to do. What do I say?
Will: You will need to be genuine. Be yourself. You’ll need to say who you are, why you are applying for the job, and why you are the best person for it.
Roisin: OK. I’ll think about what to say. Do you think I should do it like an interview?
Will: We could do that! I could ask you the questions off-camera.
Roisin: How long do you think it needs to be?
Will: I’d say not any longer than three minutes. They are going to have a lot of applicants, so the last thing they want to see is you talking at the camera for 20 minutes. You’ll find when you start talking that there’s a lot you can say in a minute, so three should be more than enough.
Roisin: I think I will write a script.
Will: That’s a good idea. We'll make sure you sound natural, but a script will help you to focus on what you’re saying and not have to think about it too much. I can even write it above the camera, so you can have it there, so you don’t forget what to say. Don’t worry about it too much, though. I can edit the video, so if you say the wrong words or laugh in the middle, we can deal with it. We don’t just want you talking to the camera for three minutes anyway; we’ll need to make changes, so the video is interesting to watch and keeps moving.
Roisin: That’s great. Thanks so much, Will. I think this might actually be a lot of fun.
Will: You’ll be a natural at it. Now, today is Tuesday, and you need some time to prepare. You could come over on Thursday night?
Roisin: Thursday night is yoga, and I’m really going to need it this week. Can you do Friday?
Will: Not in the evening as I’m going out, but do you want to come over in the morning?
Roisin: I don’t have classes until the afternoon, so yes, I think that would work.
Will: Great. I’ll see you then. Let me know if you want any help with the script.
Roisin: Will, you’re the best. Thanks so much. I’ll bring coffee and cake!
Will: It’s a deal!
