AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Tina: Staci, Hi! Have you been waiting long?
Staci: Oh, just a little while, but it’s fine, I caught up on emails on my phone.
Tina: Oh, that’s great. Let me get you a drink. What would you like?
Staci: Oh, I’ve actually already ordered one and I think it’s coming.
Tina: Great, what are you having?
Staci: They have some really nice whiskies, so I thought I’d have a small one of those!
Tina: Oh! Sounds expensive… (awkward pause)
Staci: I mean, I was going to pay for it.
Tina: No, no, I think it will be fine. You must be hungry; shall we order when the waiter comes back with your drink?
Staci: That would be great. I’m so hungry. I’ve not eaten since I was on the plane and that was basically just some chicken breast and rice. I try not to eat too much when I’m on a plane as I sometimes get a little sick.
Tina: It must have been a long trip if you’ve come all the way from Washington. I’ve heard it’s beautiful there, but it rains a lot, doesn't it?
Staci: Um, not really… Oh, I’m not from Washington State, I’m from Washington DC. East Coast, not West.
Tina: Oh, yes, I can see it on your T-shirt now you mention it. Do you like living there?
Staci: Yes, I do.
Tina: You must see a lot of the President.
Staci: I’m not really in that part of the city… (awkward pause)
Waiter: Hi there! Here’s your whisky, madam?
Staci: Awesome, thanks!
Tina: Would it be possible to order?
Waiter: Absolutely! What can I get you?
Tina: I’d just like the salad with goat cheese, please, but no salad dressing, thank you. Can I have a portion of broccoli with it too, please? Can I have it steamed?
Waiter: Shouldn’t be a problem! And to drink?
Tina: Oh, just water for me, thanks!
Waiter: Perfect. And for you, madam?
Staci: Well, I’m not having a salad. I’m not a rabbit. (laughs at her own joke, no one else does) You can give me the lobster, please! You’ll bring me some butter with that right?
Waiter: Certainly. Would you like it melted?
Staci: Is there any other way? (Laughs again) Let me get some fries on the side with that too. I’m good with the whisky for now, but can you bring the cocktail menu over in a minute?
Waiter: Certainly will. Is that everything, ladies?
Tina: Oh, yes... (a little quickly to imply she’s worried about the mounting cost of the dinner)
Staci: So, Tina, how long have you been with the company now?
Tina: Oh, a good ten years or so now. I keep thinking that I’ll leave but I never really get around to it. I don’t think I’d be able to leave Los Angeles at this point. It’s a part of me. There’s just so much to see and do here compared to other places in the US. It’s such a great place to live. My son is going to be going to university here in the fall, and my daughter is going to be coming back here soon. She’s been living with her father, but she probably got just as sick of him as I did. We’re divorced, obviously. We had to after he ran off with another woman (laughs). So, I can see us staying here for at least another five years or so. Oh, wait a minute, that’s my phone. I better take this. I’ll let you drink your whisky and I’ll be back in a minute…
