AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Speaker: Gingerbread houses are made from a type of cookie or biscuit that people cut into shapes and decorate for the holidays.
Ginger originally comes from China. Baking with ginger has been popular in Europe for hundreds of years.
The tradition of making houses with ginger cookie shapes may be related to the story of Hansel and Gretel, which was first published in 1812.
In some countries, gingerbread houses are an important part of celebrating winter holidays.
At Christmas markets, there are contests to build the biggest or most beautiful gingerbread house.
People also enjoy making them at home.
