AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Narrator: In 1976, Anita Roddick started The Body Shop in Brighton in the UK. At the beginning, she only had 25 products. She did not have enough bottles to put her products in, so began a policy of refilling the bottles for customers when they brought them back. In 1977, Roddick bought a second store by selling 50% of her business. By 1984, The Body Shop had 138 stores, 87 of them were outside the United Kingdom. In March 2006, the French company L’Oréal bought the company for $829.9 million. Anita Roddick and her husband made over $165 million from the deal. In 2017, L’Oréal sold the company to Natura, a Brazilian company, for over $1 billion.
