In this lesson, students develop their conversational skills by describing different cities. To introduce the topic the students talk about six popular cities. They then identify a set of opposite adjectives and practice the language in a variety of communicative activities. They then focus on things in a city before developing their listening skills by hearing two city descriptions and completing the different tasks. The students then practice different word stress patterns before using all the language from the lesson in a productive task in which they describe a city. The lesson finished with a speaking game to review the lesson content. (by Victoria Aitken)

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
Speaker 1: This a historical city. Standing in the city center, you can look up and see the beautiful castle on the hill. It is a very exciting city with many things to see and do. There are many museums and galleries, and in August there is a big arts festival which attracts people from all over the world. There are many monuments for famous writers and artists all over the city. There are also many modern shopping malls, restaurants, and hotels in the New Town. It is a safe place to visit but accommodation can be expensive.
Speaker 2: This city is located between two continents, and you can travel to both sides by ferry. Because the city is built next to the water, the views are beautiful. There are many mosques and palaces. A great place to go shopping is the colorful Grand Bazaar, a famous market. It is so big that you will get lost inside. It’s a noisy city as there is a lot of traffic and in the summer, it can get very hot.
