In this lesson, students develop their conversational skills by talking about what they eat for dinner. To engage with the topic, the students first review and practice a set of common foods. They then identify and learn about different meals and practice the language in a variety of student-centered activities and games. There is also a pronunciation focus on the sounds /i/ and /e/. The students then develop their listening skills by hearing people talking about what they have for dinner and then using their responses they match the questions and use them to interview their partner about their dinner habits. There is a group speaking activity to personalize the language and topic and a final describing game to review the lesson. (by Victoria Aitken)

Speaker A: I usually have dinner when I get home from work around six o’clock. I live alone, so I make something quick and easy. I usually cook pasta and vegetables or make a big salad and have it with bread and cheese. I never have meat for dinner.
Speaker B: My husband always makes dinner because he is a better cook. I do the dishes. We eat late as we both work. He makes delicious hamburgers. Sometimes we have noodles with chicken and vegetables.
Speaker C: I live with my roommate, so we often cook for each other. We both love fish, so we often have that with rice and vegetables. On the weekend, I meet my friends at a restaurant, and we always have seafood.
Speaker D: I live with my mom, and I am lucky as she cooks every night for me. We usually have some type of meat, potatoes, and a variety of vegetables. Once a month she makes my favorite dinner, kebab and chips.
