In this lesson, students develop conversational skills by discussing items in a kitchen and where they are located. The students engage with the topic by answering personalized questions. They then identify keywords in a labelling task before completing a communicative activity to discover a subject-related lexical set. They then practice the language in a variety of student-centered activities and games. The students then hear a conversation between two people in a kitchen and complete a comprehension task before noticing the use of prepositions of place. They then check the meaning of the language and complete a speaking pair work information gap activity to consolidate all the language. There is a final describing game to review the lesson. Jack: Hi Sue, can I help you in the kitchen?
Sue: Thanks. You can cut vegetables and put them in a pan of water.
Jack: OK, where is the cutting board and a knife?
Sue: The cutting board is in the cupboard above the microwave, and the knife is on the worktop over there. (pause)
Jack: OK, I’m finished, where can I find a pan?
Sue: Under the sink. Can you add some salt? It’s next to the fridge.
Jack: Sure, all done.
Sue: Thanks.
