AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
Speaker: I work as a tour guide here in my city. This type of job doesn’t usually pay much (at least around here), but I really like my job because I meet lots of different people. So I go early to the hotel to make sure tourists get up on time (the hotel receptionist often helps me with that!), then take them on a trip and drop them off back at the hotel at the end of the day. They always ask me to recommend stores, restaurants, that kind of thing. I also have to handle any problems during the day, but there aren’t usually many. It’s hard work, especially now that it’s high season: in most months, I usually work around five days a week, but I’m not taking any days off this month!
The only problem is that there’s not much time left for my personal life. I have a girlfriend, but we don’t see each other much because she’s a flight attendant, so she travels a lot. She doesn’t stay in our town for more than a couple of days at a time. Right now, for example, she’s flying to Dubai. She likes her job too, but I think it must be hard sometimes to assist people who are nervous about flying.
Anyway, I have to go now. Today’s tour leaves in about an hour, and I have to get ready. I’m taking a group of American travel agents on a boat trip, so I want to ensure everything goes well!
