Speaker: The sand, the sea and the scrumptious treats of Jamaica. Beaches to chill and bites to eat.
The Caribbean Island of Jamaica is a dream destination for a vacation and a perfect paradise to escape all the stress and busyness from back home. Rest and relaxation is the name of the game when it comes to this exotic land and when it comes to kicking back on some amazing beaches then not many other places come close.
Despite not having the most unique name in the world, Seven Mile Beach located in the northwest of the island is perhaps one of the most picturesque beaches, and this is partly because it is less developed than the others. Allow yourself to slowly walk along on top of the pristine white sand and walk from the lighthouse in the south to the livelier social heart in the north.
For food in this area take the short journey to a cozy little town that oozes relaxation. The quaint town of Negril has existed for over 500 years and for the entirety of this period, countless visitors have been blown away by its stunning sunsets. One of the best places for dinner is the Sweet Spice Restaurant which offers authentic Jamaican dishes and is hugely popular with both tourists and locals alike. Two of the best traditional specialities to try are the curried goat and the oxtail.
If privacy is important for you when having a good time, then how about an all-inclusive trip to Sandals Montego Bay? The private resort is located on 26 acres of beautiful green gardens and anything you could possibly wish for here is right at your fingertips. The resort offers Beachfront Hideaway Butler Villas which are the height of luxury, but, as I am sure you can imagine, they come with a price tag to match.
The 12 restaurants on offer in this all-inclusive resort provide gourmet food from all around the world and even a couple of familiar sites from home. For instance, The Cricketer’s Pint is a British Pub that offers such exotic dishes as fish and chips or bangers and mash.
For something with a little bit more of a Caribbean spin to it then pull up a seat at The Jerk Shack. Jerk as a style of cooking is believed to have come from Jamaica’s Arawak Indians and involves spicing and seasoning meat, wrapping it in leaves and then placing it over a coal or wood fire. The result is simply delightful with the contrast in flavors melded together wonderfully with the moist, succulent meat.
Not far from Montego Bay is Doctor’s Cave Beach, which after the closed-off nature of the Sandals resort will give you a chance to hang with the locals. It was believed the name came from a British chiropractor who suggested the beautiful turquoise water in the area had natural healing properties. Whether that is true has never been proven but the beach is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. To enter the beach you do need to pay a small charge to enter, but that little bit of cash tends to keep the beach hustlers at bay.
If it gets too hot while you are lounging about on the beach, then head to one of a number of beachfront cafes in the area and get some shelter under an umbrella or palm tree. It can also be nice to grab yourself a cool drink, so if you are feeling in the mood then treat yourself to a lovely Jamaican cocktail or two. Particular specialities are the Flaming Bob Marley, named after Jamaica’s most famous son or a Jamaican rum punch, which is so tasty you might need to control your impulses before the night is out.
