This lesson will focus on France and the things that make this European country such a popular place to visit. Students will be given the opportunity to learn all about France, firstly by listening to a conversation between two people who live in Paris. The article that follows looks at two other big cities in France that you can visit. During the lesson, students will learn new vocabulary and then personalize it by talking about France and its similarities or differences with their own countries. (by Peter Clarkin)

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
Malcolm: Oh hello Judy? It’s me, Malcolm.
Judy: Malcolm? Wow, long time no see. What brings you down to the lovely Seine on a beautiful morning like this?
Malcolm: I work around here these days. I just got a job in an office around the corner from Notre Dame Cathedral.
Judy: Wow, that sounds wonderful, and what about your apartment? Are you still living up north near the Stade de France?
Malcolm: Actually, I moved a little more centrally, and now I’m living not far from Sacre Coeur in Montmartre.
Judy: Oh, it really is so cute around there, must be a wonderful place to live. I am actually moving in the opposite direction. I have just sold my studio apartment near the Musée d'Orsay and I am going to be living way out beside Roland Garros.
Malcolm: You don’t sound so happy about that move?
Judy: To be honest I’m not thrilled, I used to love being so close to the Eiffel Tower, I could never get sick of looking up at that symbol of romance.
Malcolm: I totally understand. I’m afraid I have to run because I have a train to catch, but how about we meet up for a coffee somewhere on the Champs Elysée next week?
Judy: Great idea, I know a great little place not far from the Arc de Triomphe.
Malcolm: Sounds intriguing, I’ll text you next week and we can set it up. Okay better run.
Judy: Yeah sure, no problem. Where are you catching your train from by the way?
Malcolm: Gare du Nord, I’m off to Lille for the weekend.
Judy: Lucky you! Have a wonderful time, bon voyage!
