AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Ethan: So, Sarah, how is it going with you and Mike?
Sarah: OK, I guess…
Ethan: That doesn’t sound very certain? What’s the problem?
Sarah: I’m not sure that he’s very interested in our relationship, to be honest, Ethan. It doesn’t feel like he really cares about me very much.
Ethan: What do you mean?
Sarah: OK. So, you know how I bought him that watch for his birthday?
Ethan: Oh, the diving watch that he liked?
Sarah: Yes, so he can wear it when he goes swimming. And then I got him his favorite aftershave too. And I’m always buying him little cakes. I even buy treats for his cat.
Ethan: Yes, you’re always getting him things.
Sarah: Well, he forgot my birthday completely. He felt bad about it, but then he bought me a bottle of red wine. I don’t drink red wine; it gives me a headache. I’ve told him that.
Ethan: Oh wow! He messed up there. But didn’t he fix your car for you the other day?
Sarah: I mean, yes, he did do that, which I guess saved me some money.
Ethan: And he designed and built your wardrobe especially, so you had somewhere to keep all your shoes.
Sarah: I do love that wardrobe. But I just want some romance, you know?
Ethan: I wish Andrea would fix my car!
Sarah: (Laughs) I don’t think that is really her strength, is it?
Ethan: It’s not. Or tidying up. The house is always in a mess, and she is the one who works from home all day. So, when I get home after a day in the office, I’m the one that has to start cleaning. I also do the shopping every weekend and the cleaning. It would never get done if I left it to her.
Sarah: Ah, but Andrea’s so loving, Ethan. You’ve got a wonderful woman there. She’s always so focused on you when I see you together, and she’s always taking you on dates. Didn’t she take you to see that play last week at the theater?
Ethan: She did. And it was great. I really enjoyed it. And you’re right, she is very caring.
Sarah: That should make you happy. Most couples I see when I’m out these days are just looking at their phones. Andrea can’t keep her eyes off you.
Ethan: Yes, she’s very loving and does give me hugs all the time. I just wish she’d help around the house a bit more. I feel so stressed sometimes, but her embrace does help with that, I admit.
