The language point explores questions, long and short answers, contractions and pronunciation. There are two sets of practice exercises and a speaking activity. The lesson also includes a short optional reading activity about the pros and cons of buying souvenirs (by Stephanie Hirschman).

Conversation 1
Person A: How was your trip to Spain?
Person B: It was great, thanks. I have a little present for you. Here you are.
Person A: Oh, thanks for thinking of me. I love fridge magnets!
Person B: I know. Have you been to Spain?
Person A: Yes, I have. I’ve been to Spain a few times. I love the food.
Person B: Me too.

Conversation 2
Person C: So, you’re back from Australia. How was it?
Person D: Amazing, thanks. Have you ever been there?
Person C: No, I haven’t. I’ve never been abroad.
Person D: Really? Well, I got you a gift.
Person C: A dish towel with a kangaroo! I can always use more dish towels. Thanks a lot!

Conversation 3
Person E: Where’s Mike?
Person F: He’s gone home. He didn’t feel well.
Person E: Oh, that’s too bad. I have a snow globe to give him. I got it in California. I know he collects them. And he has never been to California.
Person F: You can give it to him tomorrow. You know, I’ve been to California. I went to Los Angeles last year.
Person E: What did you think?
Person F: I had a great time, and the people are so friendly. It was a lot of fun.
Person E: Same here.
