AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
Caller 1: Hi Paula, I’m calling to let you know that I won’t be able to come to work today. I’m afraid I’ve had a bit of an emergency. I was walking my dog, Billy, this morning when another dog came over. They didn’t like each other and got into a fight. I was worried that they were going to hurt each other, so I went over and tried to separate them. Because the other dog didn’t know me, he bit me on my hand. There was a lot of blood. I didn’t even see the other dog’s owner. I came here to the hospital, and they want to keep me here for a while as a safety measure just to check that everything is OK. I will let you know how I’m doing, but to be honest, it’s going to be difficult to use my computer for a while. My hand really hurts.
Caller 2: Mike, Hi! I’m just letting you know I won’t be at work today. I went swimming in the sea on Saturday morning, and it was really cold. I had a great swim though and felt OK afterwards, but then I got a really bad cough which I’ve had all weekend. Last night, it started to feel really painful. I’m going to go and see the doctor this morning. My whole body hurts and I’m worried that I might have the flu. I don’t want to come into the office and spread it to other people. I will email you when I’ve seen him and of course, I will get a note from him. I’ll talk to you soon.
Caller 3: Hi Megan, I can’t come to work today. I was cooking dinner in the kitchen last night and talking to my son. We always have chicken on a Wednesday night, so I was preparing some and, because I was talking, I didn’t focus properly on what I was doing and managed to cut on my finger. I’m glad my son was there because I hurt it quite seriously. He took me to the emergency room at the hospital. I’m back at home now, but the doctor says I should not use my hand for a couple of days. Unfortunately, it was my right hand, so I’m going to have problems doing most things now, but writing and using the computer are going to be difficult for a while. I’ll send you a photo later. I may have to take the whole week off, to be honest. But I’ll send my son to get my laptop, and I will see what I can do from home.
