AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
ONE
Man 1: I am still a bit upset about my breakup.
Woman 1: You should meet new people!
Man 1: But I’m too shy.
Woman 1: Well, you can always download Tinder.
Man 1: Tinder? What is that?
Woman 1: It’s a social network that lets you meet new people, so you can talk to them online before going on a date.
TWO
Girl 1: I have always wanted to speak Spanish.
Boy 1: You could always pay for lessons.
Girl 1: But language lessons are so expensive these days!
Boy 1: Well, you can use a social network to learn some vocabulary. There are lots of interesting videos and language tips on TikTok. But to really learn a new language, you need a real teacher.
THREE
Boy 2: I wanted to redecorate my room, but I have no ideas.
Girl 2: You should try looking online for ideas.
Boy 2: Ugh, but downloading images then saving in folders is so much effort.
Girl 2: Don’t worry, there are online pinboards now. I use Pinterest all the time. You don’t have to download anything, and it organizes your pictures for you.
FOUR
Man 2: How’s the job hunting going?
Woman 2: Not good. I tried leaving my CV at five different places, but no one’s replied yet.
Man 2: You should try downloading LinkedIn. It’s a social network that connects you to employers, and it’s way easier than walking around town with your CV.
Woman 2: It’s worth a try, I guess.
FIVE
Woman 3: Do you remember Arlene?
Man 3: Arlene? From our high school? Wow, I haven’t thought about her in decades.
Woman 3: Well, I talked to her just the other day!
Man 3: What? But I thought she moved to Berlin all those years ago!
Woman 3: I found her on Facebook, and we got chatting again! It’s way easier to find people nowadays.

Jena: Social networking is completely out of control these days, but do the things we do online make sense in real life? Let’s take to the streets and find out.
Jena: Uh, hi, I just want to let you know that I’m following you like just giving an alert.
Woman 1: Okay.
Jena: You don’t have to do anything, just know it and enjoy it!
Jena: Jenny Kingsley is now following you, just like, do whatever and I’ll just watch.
Jena: Is that creepy?
Jena: Do you want to poke me back? Wasn’t that fun?
Man 1: Yeah, this is weird that I don’t even know you.
Jena: I know! But that’s what you do, right?
Jena: Tom O’Donnell started working at McGuire law firm. Congratulate Tom, guys! Be team players!
Jena: You guys are not supportive.
Jena: I want to endorse you for your coffee-making skills.
Man 2: Thank you, I appreciate it.
Jena: So easy, I don’t even know what it means but it’s the thing to do!
Jena: Do you think you’re gonna endorse me too? ’Cause I’m pretty good at it.
Woman 2: Sure!
Jena: Okay, cool!
Jena: Hi, guys... I was wondering if you would like to accept my friendship request.
Jena: Look, he looks really important with like the whole button-down. Do you want to be connected?
Man 3: Do I want to be connected? How do I, how do you wanna be connected?
Jena: Excuse me, I just wanted to let you know that twelve people have viewed you.
Man 4: I’m sorry?
Jena: Twelve people have viewed you on the subway.
Woman 3: What does that mean?
Jena: I don’t know, he must be really important, they’re like, viewing you.
Jena: That guy chose to remain anonymous.
Jena: Seven people have viewed you on the subway.
Jena: I have just checked into Grand Central Station! What’s your name?
Man 5: Andrew?
Jena: Jena and Andrew have just checked into Grand Central Station with about, uh, four hundred and fifty-two other people!
Jena: I am getting so many views right now! I am!
Jena: Oh my god, ma’am! That’s so cute I have to share this with everybody! Do you want to comment on how cute this is?
Woman 4: This is cute!
Jena: I like your comment.
Jena: Excuse me, sir, can you introduce me to that guy that’s sitting next to you?
Man 6: This guy?
Jena: You’re like, our 1-degree connection...
Man 6: Okay.
Jena: So if you could introduce me...
Man 6: Alright, and your name is?
Jena: Jena.
Man 6: Excuse me? Hey, my, my friend over here, Jenna, she’d like me to introduce you to her.
Jena: Hey, I’m Jena. I mean we had him in common, so I figured I should meet you, and now we’re all connected.
