In this lesson, we talk about technology and inventions. First, students watch a short video on the topic, and answer some questions. Then they see some vocabulary to describe technology, and some examples of new and old inventions that changed the world. They listen to a conversation about technology, exploring differing opinions on modern inventions. They will learn about the Metaverse and virtual tourism, and finally, provide their opinions on the different topics explored throughout the lesson (by Edward Alden).

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT
Josh: I think that the most invaluable invention in the world has to be the Internet.
Laura: What? You’re crazy. The Internet is great, but we lived without it for centuries. I reckon the light bulb, for example, is indispensable.
Josh: Well, can you use a light bulb to log in to Facebook?
Laura: No… but a lot of what you can do on Facebook, you could do with a typewriter and a film camera.
Josh: It’s not just about writing posts and posting pictures! The Internet can connect you to people across the world. You have to admit, that is cutting-edge.
Laura: I just think we need to be less connected online and more connected with those physically around us!
