AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Speaker 1: I lied to my boss about being sick once. I’d been to the beach over the weekend and accidentally fell asleep in the sun. Well, I was really badly sunburned all over my face and arms. It was horrible and I was really embarrassed. My skin was coming off and I looked like something out of a horror film. So, I told my boss I had a fever and took the week off. It wasn’t a fun week. I had to isolate myself so that no one from work saw me, so I was just at home and pretty bored all week. Then, when I got back to work, I had to work late every night for about two weeks to catch up with what I missed. But by the time I got back to work, my skin was pretty much back to normal again.
Speaker 2: So, I don’t really want to go into too much detail about what happened, but let’s just say that I got a nasty rash in a private area of my body. I could still work, but I called in sick and said I had food poisoning because I needed to go and see a specialist which took me a few hours to go and do. So, I couldn’t say I was just going for a check-up to my doctor, because it wouldn’t take that long. I felt a bit guilty about lying to my boss because we have a good relationship, but there’s no way I could have told her the truth. The worse thing about being back in the office is that I had this antibiotic cream that I had to keep putting on. I was going to the bathroom all the time and I could tell everyone thought that I was still affected by the food poisoning. I felt pretty stupid about it.
Speaker 3: I’m really into sports so, honestly, I never really get sick and I wouldn’t pretend to be sick because I’m one of those people who hates sitting still. I get bored really quickly and I like to be doing things. I’d hate to sit at home watching TV. I worked with this lady once though and she told our manager and a few of us on the team that she was having back problems and so every week, she needed to go and have a massage by a health professional. So, she left early every Wednesday for weeks and it just became normal. Anyway, one Wednesday, I was out seeing a customer and came back late and stopped in town to get some lunch. I happen to see this lady walk into a bar. There was no massage, she was just going to get drinks with her friends. I didn’t say anything because it’s not my business. But I did ask her every Thursday if she enjoyed her massage just to watch her lie.
