In this lesson, students develop their conversational skills by discussing things they have in common. The lesson starts with a discussion about what it means to have something in common with someone and then students identify words and phrases to talk about similarities. They then listen to a short conversation between two people about the activities they both like and dislike. They then focus on the phrases used in the dialogue to express having things in common before completing a variety of interactive, communicative tasks to practice the language. They then go on to develop the phrases and expand the topics before completing a personalized activity to find out how much they have in common with their classmates (by Victoria Aitken).

Man: Do you like going to the movie theater?
Woman: Yes, I do. I love action movies.
Man: So, do I, but I don’t like science fiction movies.
Woman: Neither do I. What about exercising, do you like playing any sports?
Man: Not really.
Woman: Neither do I. I sometimes watch soccer but that’s about it. Do you like going to art galleries?
Man: No, not at all.
Woman: Oh, I do. I went to the Photographers Gallery last week. They have a fantastic exhibition on at the moment.
