In this lesson, students develop their conversational skills in the context of describing what they usually do at the weekend in a variety of engaging and communicative activities. Students start by completing the sentence prompts to engage with the topic and then they identify different weekend activities and notice linking patterns in the collocations. There is also a focus on adverbs of frequency. Students then develop their listening skills by listening to three people talking about their weekend routines and completing a comprehension task. They finish with a final productive task to consolidate and use all the language from the lesson (by Vicky Aitken).

Tanya: I love weekends. I usually stay in bed until 10 am. On Saturdays, I always go shopping and clean my house. On Sundays, I often meet my friends.

Pete: I always do some type of exercise. On Saturdays, I often play soccer (football) with my friends and on Sundays, I sometimes go swimming.
Narrator: Shirley
Shirley: I usually stay in bed and read a book in the mornings, especially when it rains. On Sundays, I always cook a meal and watch a movie. I sometimes go to the park when it is sunny.
