AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Reporter: In our podcast today, we’re talking about one of the most famous families in the world: the British royals! They became even more famous after Netflix’s series "The Crown" went on air. Have you watched it? Well, over 70 million people have!
All members of the British royal family are famous, but some are more popular than others. According to the website YouGov, the late Queen Elizabeth II is the most famous member: 99% of British people know who she is. She’s also the most popular, with 79%. The Prince of Wales is also very famous, with 98%, but his wife is more popular than him. Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is really famous, with 98%, but not very popular: only 29% like her.
But how much is each member worth? The website Reader's Digest made a ranking. Prince William and Prince Harry are both worth $40 million each, and their father, King Charles III is worth $100 million. Their mother, Queen Elizabeth is worth a lot more, $550 million, but nowhere near the royal children. Prince George, the future king, is worth $3.6 billion and his sister Charlotte even more: $5 billion!
So, in a way, the most valuable member of the family is not the king: it’s little Princess Charlotte! It’s called the Charlotte effect: all the girls want to be like her, so all clothes she wears are sold out from stores the next day.
When Queen Elizabeth passed away in 2022, it was a major moment in British history. 250,000 people waited up to 19 hours in a queue to say goodbye to her. But at the same time, many people started asking if the United Kingdom really needed a royal family.
There were other problems: Prince Harry and Meghan went to live in the United States and Harry wrote a book called Spare, which also created problems for the royal family. Could this be the end of the royal family? Probably not anytime soon, as a lot of people still love them!
