This lesson will focus on Brazil and the things that make the country one of a kind. Learners will be given the opportunity to learn all about Brazil, firstly with an audio section looking at the beautiful beaches in the country. The article that follows looks at a road trip from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo. Within the lesson, students will learn new vocabulary and then personalize it by talking about Brazil and its similarities or differences with their own countries. The lesson also includes a homework task which looks at two extra texts about Brazilian sports (by Peter Clarkin).

AUDIO/VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Narrator: Since I was a kid, the one thing I have loved most in life is the beach, and a trip to the home of the Copacabana to sip lovingly on a caipirinha has been on my bucket list for a long time. Luckily, I got the chance to visit Brazil last summer and it was a vacation that fulfilled all my expectations.
The first beach I decided to check out was on the beautiful island of Ilha Grande, an island which was left untouched and uninhabited for decades. The headline attraction is Lopes Mendes, a stunning white beach which can only be accessed by boat and a 20-minute forest hike.
My next stop was the beach located in the fashionable neighborhood of Ipanema. The beach is the main attraction of the area, stretches for more than two miles and is lined with trendy bars and restaurants. I also took a little educational detour while I was there to the Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow), the unusual looking building houses exhibitions which show the ways in which humans have damaged the planet.
My final stop was the world-famous Copacabana beach, home to golden sands and gentle waves, millions of tourists are drawn here each year to have the time of their life. Beach volleyball, banana boats and Brazilian barbecue, I tried them all, and they were all amazing.
