The article looks at the best food in Italy and nice places in the country to go for a walk. Within the lesson, students will learn new vocabulary and then personalize it by talking about Italy and its similarities or differences with their own countries (by Peter Clarkin).

AUDIO/VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Speaker: Last Spring, I was lucky enough to have a long weekend and I decided that I would use that chance to try and get away to somewhere new. As a huge lover of both pizza and pasta, I felt that Rome would be the perfect destination for me, so I got myself a budget flight ticket and within a day I was touching down in the "Eternal City".
I only had three days in the capital so I made it my goal to have as much fun as I possibly could. I felt the best way to start my trip was with a shot of dark, delicious espresso at one of the cute cafes you can find in Centro Storico, the historic center of Rome. With that little bit of extra caffeine inside me I took a speedy walk along the beautiful Tiber River but quickly paused when I came across the outstanding Castel Sant’Angelo. This historic castle was converted into a fortress for the Pope in the 6th century and now serves as a fascinating museum.
Speaking of the Pope, I was desperate to visit the Vatican City while I was in Rome, and I was not disappointed with what I saw. My dream from when I was a little kid was to see St. Peter’s Basilica and when I first set my eyes on this beauty, I was so excited. It took over a century to construct the basilica and its interior is just as impressive as its exterior. When I walked inside, I stood and stared at Michelangelo’s stunning sculpture, La Pietá which was a wonderful treat to end a wonderful weekend.
