The way we teach and learn English is changing, but what do these changes mean for teachers? Where can you get help with professional development?
The roundtable promoted by The British Council on July 29 addressed changes in English education in the Americas, featuring Nick Perkins (Colombia), Denise Valenzuela (Mexico), Alicia Artusi (Argentina), Liliana Sánchez (Argentina), and Ralph Grayson (Mexico).
During the activity, they shared practical tips and also launched the first episode of the new podcast series for English language teachers.

A mesa redonda promovida pelo British Council no dia 29 de julho abordou as mudanças no ensino de Inglês nas Américas, com participação de Nick Perkins (Colômbia), Denise Valenzuela (México), Alicia Artusi (Argentina), Liliana Sánchez (Argentina) e Ralph Grayson (México).
Durante a atividade, foram compartilhadas dicas práticas e também foi lançado o primeiro episódio da nova série de podcasts para professores de Língua Inglesa.

NICK PERKINS

Nick has worked in education, publishing and broadcasting for over 20 years. He has taught English, managed and trained teachers, written and edited materials, and implemented curricular reform projects all over the world, and he hosted a live weekly urban music radio show on UN Radio 98.5FM for many years. Nick lives in Bogota and spends his free time cycling in the Colombian mountains. He recently produced a series of podcasts for the British Council called New Ways of Teaching, in which he interviewed educators from across Latin America about innovative solutions in Education.

DENISE VALENZUELA

Denise Valenzuela is an experienced Project Manager in the Education sector, she has worked in International Education, ELT and Teacher Training programmes. She has focused on English teacher’s continuous professional development, through her work she has influenced education systems in Mexico and have impacted more than 10,000 English teachers in the public sector and almost one million Mexican students from Basic Education in Mexico.

ALICIA ARTUSI

Alicia works for British Council from Argentina. Previously she worked as Materials Developer and Quality Manager for the Ceibal en Inglés project. She holds an MA in Education and Professional development with NILE and the University of Chichester, UK. and has written articles for teachers and several coursebooks for OUP, UK.

RALPH GRAYSON 

Ralph is in Education Services Manager at the British Council in Peru. Since joining the British Council, he has managed the organization's portfolio of activity in support of education and bilingualism in Peru. As part of the bilingualism support activity, his management has worked closely with the Ministry of Education in strengthening teachers' English language skills as well as their empowerment by improving their pedagogical strategies. Ralph Grayson has worked in the world of ELT for more than 30 years, leading innovation and change projects in areas such as program implementation, training, online teaching-learning, among others. 

LILIANA SÁNCHEZ

Liliana is the Programme Lead for the Remote Teaching Centre at British Council Argentina with focus on Plan Ceibal Uruguay. She is a Cambridge English Language Assessment Delta Module 2 assessor and regular speaker at national and international ELT conferences such as BBELT, Mextesol, LABCI and IATEFL. Liliana has worked in education management, course and materials design, standardisation of assessment and criteria, validation of training programmes, counselling and coaching of ELT professionals, provision of academic solutions and tailor-made academic services. Liliana holds an MA in TESOL from Canterbury Christchurch University in UK, and her main interests are research, teacher education and leadership.
