O professor Adir Ferreira, em seu canal no YouTube, produziu um vídeo com explicações sobre a expressão “BE SUPPOSED TO”, frequentemente usada para indicar uma obrigação, expectativa ou algo considerado normal ou esperado. É uma expressão utilizada para falar sobre o que é considerado correto ou apropriado em uma determinada situação. Também pode ser usada para expressar planos ou previsões. Apesar dessa última utilização, o verbo “be” só pode ser utilizado no presente e no passado, nunca no futuro.

• They were supposed to arrive yesterday, but their flight was delayed.
• They were supposed to have a meeting with the project team this morning.
• We’re supposed to go on a trip next month if everything goes according to plan.
