HOW TO SAY THE TIME IN ENGLISH



How do we ask the time in English?
  • What time is it?
  • What is the time?
  • Do you have the time?
  • Do you know what time is it?
  • Can you tell me what time is it, please?
  • Could you tell me the time, please?
  • Do you happen to have the time?
  • Have you got the right time?
  • What time do you make it?
Some examples of how to answer the questions:
  • It’s exactly 3 o'clock (or "It's about 3" / "It's almost 3" / "It's just gone 3").
  • Sure, it is 3:00.
  • Sorry, I am not wearing a watch.
  • (It's) 2:30 (two thirty / half past two).
  • It is 4:20 (four twenty / twenty past four / twenty after four).
  • It is ten past ten (ten after ten).
  • The time is 8 o’clock.
  • It is a quarter to nine.
